台鐵西臨港線鐵道去年停用後，規劃打通鐵道兩側，最近完成新樂街打通到鼓山路，直通壽山公園大門，是第一條打通台鐵西臨港線鐵道的平面道路，有利兩側居民進出
由沿海二路延伸至北斗街原為西臨港線鐵道，配合鐵路地下化於２００７年停駛，廢棄至今，雜草亂生，其治安．衛生可謂一大隱憂．沿線鐵道保留完整，緊臨股山一．二路，貫穿鼓山區和鹽埕區，荒廢至今實屬可惜．
目前規劃哈瑪星台鐵高港站，保存鐵道歷史文化特色，計劃將台鐵高港站及鐵道開發為鐵道園區，臨港線鐵路路廊保存活化為輕軌、自行車道及市區環狀綠帶，讓鐵道保存與都市開發共榮，透過建設鐵道博物館機會，帶動哈瑪星、鹽埕地區文化、觀光發展。
由北斗街至大公路橋下的住家建築，因為過去火車經過而人們很少使用到的背立面慢慢的被忽略了，顯得雜亂不堪，舊鐵道沿線的居民大多沒有在使用，但有些居民也會在鐵道上種菜和一些花圃。

七大自行車專用道，由風光明媚的旗津環島踩風車道領軍，尚包括後勁溪、愛河連接蓮池潭、博愛世運、美麗島大道、西臨港線、前鎮河車道等，均屬一時之選。

高雄市是全國第一個「都會網絡型」公共腳踏車租賃系統，全系統的51個租賃站已完全啟用，總計將有4500輛腳踏車提供服務。為了讓民眾可以親身體驗C-bike的便利與環保，冀望公共腳踏車讓高雄成為單車都市記錄歷史的一頁。
